While having access to older Splinter Cell games on modern consoles is a plus for fans, some may be more concerned with the future of the franchise. Those games were known for being far superior on Xbox compared to their PS2 and GameCube counterparts, and in fact, the original Splinter Cell was even a timed-exclusive for Microsoft's debut console. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if the Splinter Cell trilogy of games from the original Xbox will ever make their way to the backward compatibility lineup. Both games earned strong reviews back when they originally released, and considering how much the Splinter Cell brand has been associated with Xbox in the past, it's fitting that they've been added to the backward compatibility lineup.
